Greening Communities – Tree Planting Activities
23 December 2009 saw Banyan Tree Bintan’s last tree planting activity. As part of our group-wide initiative, all of the Banyan Tree hotels and resorts are challenged to plant 2,000 trees a year, to raise awareness of climate change and resource conservation.
Banyan Tree Bintan delivered a stellar performance with the help of the local community, school children, government officials and guests, planting 2,000 trees in the Sri Bintan Village, at various locations such as schools, government offices, road sides, mosques, and within the villagers’ houses.

Sri Bintan Village’s head, Bapak Jumiran, has been keeping a close watch on trees planted throughout the year and is happy to report that the saplings are growing well.

To help reduce the occurrence of landslides and ease the flow of water around the surrounding area, a team of Banyan Tree associates, together with members of the local community, embarked on a ground-leveling and drainage ditch project at local school SDN 01 Teluk Sebong at Senggiling.
