Toy Collection 2010
The three magic kings celebration is a very popular Mexican tradition in which children receive a toy every January 6th, remembering the catholic story of the three kings traveling to give a present for the king of kings that was about to born (Jesus); sadly a lot of children have already lost the emotion and hope of being a part of the celebration because of the lack of money from their parents or the community.
This year Banyan Tree organized the first toy collection for 2010 (in Spanish Juguetón 2010), with this, we achieve to draw many smiles on the children of Playa del Carmen and from other two communities: Francisco May and Zona Agrícola along with the international organization Save the children which has created a project to develop special playgrounds to allow the children to learn values, environment and their rights and duties as children while they play.
All Banyan Tree associates were willing to collaborate with this initiative and we managed to collect enough toys for the children of three centers instead of once like we had thought at first. We intend for this to be an annually initiative and create on this children the emotion they had already lost.
