Forestry and Social Enterprises

A Distinguished Lecture presented by Banyan Tree Global Foundation

Life leads us in interesting directions, but underlying each decision is the implications upon our lives as individuals as well as the members of a global society. Tropical forests have long been supported by conservation efforts, but all too often the power of a social enterprise framework has remained untapped to support forest conservation. Hear about a conservation journey that was spurred by a chance encounter with an Orangutan and has lead to not only multiple Orangutan rehabilitation centers in Indonesia, but also a promising opportunity to address food as well as energy issues inspired by the indigenous agriculture practices with the Sugar Palm.

Banyan Tree Global Foundation proudly presents Mr Willie Smits in a distinguished lecture inspired by forest and wildlife conservation but also addressing sustainable energy and agriculture. Mr Smits is the founder of Borneo Orangutan Survival, an internationally recognized forestry expert, Ashoka Fellow, and speaker at TED 2009 and QI Global 2010.
